September’s athlete of the month, Cameron Luczka, continues to showcase his abilities on the course as he climbs up in the GWOC rankings, breaking into the top 10. Luczka broke the school record for 3rd best round in Fairmont history with a 70 at the Miamisburg Invite in August. He is a senior and hopes to continue his golf career in college. Luczka reflects on the importance of golf and the impact it has had on his life.
“It’s a lifestyle, working on your sport before and after school. It’s something that really dictates my life,” he said.
Favorite Moment: Shooting a 69 while playing with my coaches and teammates at the Dorwood Invite. Also, winning that tournament.
Favorite Quote: “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up” – Jimmy Valvano
Biggest Challenge: Consistently getting better and playing 100% no matter what day.
Season Goal: To break Fairmont’s record for average in a season and to make it to state.
Advice: “Practice is the most important part. You can’t prepare or better yourself without practice.”
Fairmont golf is currently 3-2 in the GWOC and ranked 3rd in the National East Division. Their next match is Thursday, September 15 at Beavercreek.
Congratulations Cameron, on being named The Fairmont Flyer’s September Athlete of the Month!
