The weather has cooled, the trees are changing and all thoughts are turning to … well, for many teenagers, it’s Halloween, haunted houses and hayrides.
The Miami Valley offers so many great attractions, you may have trouble deciding which to choose. The Flyer offers some info to help you plan.
The Land of Illusion Haunted Scream Park

The Land of Illusion is one of the top-rated haunted venues in Southwest Ohio. There are five attractions: the Killer Klowns, VooDoo Bayou Shanty, Middletown Haunted Trail, Dr. Psycho’s Haunted Estate, and the Temple of Terror. A $34.99 ticket gets you into all five attractions on Friday and Saturday nights; the Haunted Trail is closed on Sundays. For an additional $15, you can get a fast pass, which gives access to shorter, faster-moving lines at each attraction. The Land of Illusion is open Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m to 2 a.m. and Sundays from 8 to 11:30 p.m. It is open through Saturday, Nov. 1.
Halloween Haunt at Kings Island

This well-known amusement park takes a turn toward spooky on weekends through Sunday, Nov. 2. Check the website for special attractions, ticket prices and deals. Halloween Haunt is open on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m, Saturday from 11 a.m to 1 a.m, and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Riverside JayCees Haunted Castle of Carnage and Bloody Hollow
1213 Old Harshman Road, Riverside, Ohio; (937) 254-2576
This local attraction is the longest-running haunt in the area. As the Jaycees like to say, “We have been scaring the YELL out of you since 1986!” Tickets are $12, and for $5, you can go through the haunted house again. Visit their website to print a coupon for $2 off the ticket price. This attraction is open on Fridays and Saturdays from dusk to midnight and on Sundays from dusk to 10 p.m.
Springboro Haunted Hayride and Black Bog

Springboro Haunted Hayride and Black Bog is yet another acclaimed attraction in the Miami Valley. The Haunted Hayride costs $12, and admission to the Black Bog is $12, or you can get a combo ticket to visit both for $22. The ticket office opens at sundown and closes at 11:30 p.m. They are open Friday and Saturday nights through Nov. 1.
Haunted Wagon Ride
6880 Springfield-Xenia Road, Yellow Springs; (937) 325-0629
Located at Young’s Jersey Dairy near Yellow Springs, the Haunted Wagon Ride and Scary Stories are designed for families with children. A responsible adult must accompany all children under age 11. Tickets are $10 adults and children 5 and older; children 4 or younger are admitted for $4. The event is open from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights in October.
