The Fairmont Girls’ Basketball team advanced to the State Final Four for the fourth consecutive year with a 58-46 win over GWOC rival Centerville on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

Fairmont (25-1) will play Toledo Notre Dame (23-3) in the State semifinals on Friday, March 15.

More than 5,000 attended the much-anticipated grudge match between Centerville and Fairmont at Wright State University’s Nutter Center. The teams had met twice, with Fairmont claiming victory on Dec. 22, 2012, and Centerville getting its revenge with a win over the Firebirds on Jan. 23. Those games accounted for each team’s only loss heading into the rematch. Centerville’s season ended at 26-2.

This will be junior center Makayla Waterman’s third trip to State. “I’m really excited to be in the final four again. We are determined to not go home empty-handed this year,” she said.

Fairmont’s semifinal game will take place at 8 p.m. Friday at Ohio State’s Schottenstein Center. A victory will send the Firebirds into the Division I Finals at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets for Friday’s game are $8 each if purchased through the Fairmont Athletic Office by 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

In addition, Fairmont is offering transportation for students via a Spirit Bus. Students must pick up and turn in their Field Trip Permission Forms to the Athletic Office and pay $10 (includes ticket) to ride the bus by 4 p.m. on Thursday. Students who ride the bus to Columbus must ride back on the bus.  Transportation Releases will not be accepted for this trip.
