Varsity bowling teams advance to State


For the first time since 2008, both the girls’ and boys’ varsity bowling teams from Fairmont High School have advanced to the compete in the OHSAA State Championships in the same year.

The girls earned a spot in the State Tournament along with Beavercreek High School, Versailles High School, Mason High School and Sydney High School. The girls are one of sixteen teams left in the state of Ohio to compete for the State Championship.

 The girls were lead by senior bowlers Brooke Swallows with a 592 series and Captain Molly Crouch with a 542 series. Other scorers for the Lady Firebirds include sophomore Jessica Wolfe who bowled a 572 series.

The boys varsity bowling team finished third at Districts out of 24 teams.  The Firebirds are one of 16 teams  that are left to compete out of the 376 boys bowling teams in Ohio. The team’s top scorers were junior Autsin Mahaffey, who shot a 646 and senior Daulton Cooper who shot a 644.

The girls are to compete in Columbus, Ohio Friday, March 1, 2013 for the State Championship. The boys will compete at the same place Saturday, March 2, 2013 for State Championship as well.
