Fairmont Girls’ Golf has first winning season

Fairmont Girls’ Varsity and Junior Varsity Golf teams wrapped up 2012 with their first winning seasons in school history. Their records were 9-7 and 5-1, respectively.

Along with setting the record for the first winning seasons, Head Coach Rebecca Parr noted that the varsity squad set yet another school record. “The girls set a school record for the lowest team score for 18 holes by shooting a 421 at the post-season GWOC tournament,” said Parr.

Letter winners this year were seniors Devin Farley, Tayler Hardy, Taylor Yarger and Meagan Wilson, sophomore Karlie Winhoven and freshman Lauryn Carter. Both Farley and Hardy were GWOC scholar athletes, and Farley was named to the Second Team in the GWOC Central Divison.

On Oct. 25, the overall team special award winners were announced. The winners were: Sportsmanship: Meagan Wilson; Most Improved: Taylor Yarger; Coach’s Award: Tayler Hardy; and Most Valuable Player: Devin Farley.
