On Aug. 29, 2012, Fairmont High School performed a state-mandated lockdown drill during second period. Classes continued as usual, but teachers locked their doors, no one was allowed in the halls, and all exterior doors to the building were locked.
According to Principal Dan VonHandorf, the drill went well. “It was a great opportunity to make sure the staff is prepared,” said VonHandorf. “It’s amazing how quickly the doors get locked.”
A few minor problems did occur, however. “A couple of the doors weren’t latching, so we have maintenance working on that,” said VonHandorf.
