Four Firebird wrestlers to compete at State Championships

The Firebird wrestlers finished third at the Southwest Ohio District Championships at Fairfield on Feb. 24-25, 2012. The third-place finish was the best finish by the Firebirds since 1961 and the top finish ever in the current 3-week series format.

Senior Tommy Kimbrell (170 lbs) earned his second consecutive District Champion title, and his record is now 44-0.  Senior Justin Kihn (126 lbs) and junior Matt Denlinger (132 lbs) finished as District runners-up, while sophomore Josh Parrett (120 lbs) finished in third place. All four wrestlers will compete at the OHSAA State Championships beginning on Thursday, March 1.

“All four of our qualifiers have been to Coumbus before and there is a lot to be said for that experience,” said Head Coach Frank Baxter. “Each one of them have a goal and they will be willing to do whatever it takes to reach that goal.”
