Girls Varsity Tennis players succeed individually, bond as team

The Girls’ Varsity Tennis team placed 3rd in the GWOC this year with a season record of 7-9. Some highlights of the season were when the team crushed Fairborn by five matches and Northmont by three matches. However, they had their share of losses when Beavercreek and Springboro beat the team by five points.

“There were many highlights of the season but the most memorable was the overall teamwork that our girls displayed throughout the season,” said Head Coach Tim Voegeli. “Our seniors were great at getting everyone involved in team activities and that made for an enjoyable season.”

Junior Allison Bendel finished 3rd in Sectionals and was a District qualifier. Although Bendel found individual success this season, she agrees with Voegeli that the highlights of the season were the moments when they bonded as a team.

“During GWOC, it was so cold and rainy that we huddled under a tent with blankets and waited for the rain to stop,” said Bendel.  “It was nice because we bonded as a team and spent a lot of time together.”

The team awards were: MVP: junior Allison Bendel: Most Improved: sophomore Maryn Moor: Coaches Award: senior Erin Koehler; and Sportsmanship Award: senior Colleen Murphy.
