Athlete of the month: Marqies Williams

Congratulations to senior Marqies Williams on being named The Flyer’s September Athlete of the Month. Williams plays halfback and defensive back for the varsity football team and is a three-year letter winner  He has been playing football since first grade.

“I wanted to start playing football because my older brother was involved in sports,” Williams said.

Being an athlete has played a vital role in Williams’s life, both on and off of the field.

“Football has changed my mindset and my work ethic. Sports also changed who I hang out and associate myself with,” Williams said.

What advice would you give to other student athletes? Don’t sell yourself too short and to just keep grinding.

What is one goal for this season? To win the rest of our games and to go further in the playoffs.

What is your proudest moment as an athlete? In track, I broke the school record for the 4×100 relay. For football, beating Alter my senior year.

What has been one of the most challenging things throughout your athletic career? Overcoming injuries or to not say anything back to the coaches when they are yelling at me.
