Fairmont High School is hosting the annual blood drive, which is held by Community Blood Center. This event provides students with the opportunity to save up to three lives by donating blood. The two types of blood donation are whole blood donation and automated donation. Whole blood donation is the more common and the blood is collected from a vein in the arm. Automated donation is when special machines allow them to collect the exact components that patients need.

In order to donate, you must be 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good general health. Height and weight requirements are higher for automated donations. If you are 16, you must have parental consent, but if you’re 17 or older then parental consent is not needed.

The blood drive will take place on November 3rd at Trent Arena from eight to noon. Blood drive papers are due to the activities office at Fairmont High School by Friday October 28th.
