Climate change is one of the most controversial topics of discussion. For that reason there are two types of people, the ones who believe climate change is real and the people who believe it is nothing but a conspiracy.

Climate change is the result of carbon pollution from burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas causing climate disruption and warming.

Burning fossil fuels is relatively cheap, but can result  in respiratory diseases, floods, farm output and other effects from the greenhouse gases it creates we could help fix the problem. The idea of a carbon tax has become a possibility due to this issue.

The carbon tax or pollution tax would levy a fee on production, distribution, or even the use of fossil fuels based on how much carbon a person uses. The tax price would be set by the government per ton and translated into a tax on electricity, natural gas/oil.

The tax would be beneficial in encouraging reduced consumption of carbon and increase energy efficiency. While also making alternative energy like solar and wind renewable energy more cost competitive and help minimize air pollution.

Ninety-seven percent of scientists agree that man-made climate change is a reality and we are responsible. Evidence shows that heat trapping gases used from human activities have caused a global increase in temperatures by over 90 percent since the 20th century.

We have had the most global warming in the past 35 years with 15 of the 16 warmest years on record since 2001. However Increased carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere is the primary cause of warming.

Ocean’s are also warming due to the increased heat. Within the top 2,300 feet of water the overall temperature has risen 0.302 degrees since 1969.the ice caps are the main factors contributing to the rise. Global sea levels have risen about 6.7 inches in the last decade

Greenland and the Arctic are on the verge of melting entirely. The world’s ice caps are melting at such a drastic rate and scientists are worried that sea level rise will cause floods in states closest to the ocean.

One of the ways we get fresh water is from ice caps and the water melting off of them is going into our oceans and making the water undrinkable. This creates issues with not only the planet but with our water industry.

If we don’t take action on the issue future generations will be affected by the consequences. Summer temperatures will rise in heat waves and droughts resulting in reduction of soil moisture. Hurricanes will become stronger and more intense than ever before.

Not only that, but the arctic is expected to be ice free by mid-century, diseases will spread killing off trees and those are only some of the effects to come in the future.

If the U.S enacted a carbon tax we could diminish carbon pollution and help save the environment before it’s too late.

Great article! I love the facts that you incorporated into the story and I definitely believe that climate change is a real and scary thing that’s occurring right now. People who don’t believe that it’s really happening really didn’t pay much attention in a regular science class. I personally think that all future politicians should take a Environmental Science class in college if they really want to become a leader. #EmDawggOut
