Congratulations to freshman basketball player, Maddy Westbeld, for being January’s athlete of the month. Practice is very important in her life because if she doesn’t practice, she won’t get any better.
Her proudest moment as an athlete involves winning. “Beating teams that underestimate me and my team,” Westbeld said.
She explained that the most challenging part of the season has been “Trying to play with a new team and new people.” Westbeld is one of four freshmen on the varsity team this season. She has started every game this season and plays a major part in the Birds success.
Basketball has played a key role in her life. It is more than just a game, it is something she spends all of her time doing and perfecting. “It gives me something to do with my time. I’ve developed a passion for it and set goals for myself,” Westbeld said.
