Students in the Kettering Fairmont Construction Trades Program are putting their skills to work to help a family in the community. Kathy Adkins and her three autistic children live in a house on Saranac Circle, but the house does not fit the family’s special needs.

The makeover consists of a 20 x 15 foot room addition on the back of the house, as well as the renovation of a bedroom and a bathroom.

“The house will be more handicapped-accessible when it is finished,” said Lou Laquaglia, the Construction Trades instructor. “This is Extreme Makeover for Kettering.”

The Adkins family attends Beavercreek Christian Church, and the church brought the family’s needs to the attention of the City of Kettering, which in turn contacted Fairmont’s Construction Trades Program.
