The "Banshee" is Kings Island's newest attraction featuring many drops, loops and spirals in an attempt to make even the highest thrill seekers scream. But this reviewer wanted to scream after spending so much time in line.

Legend has it that a banshee is a ghost-like lady from the underworld who wails when someone is about to die. I guess Kings Island named its newest roller coaster the Banshee to make it sound more thrilling.

But the most wailing I heard when I visited Kings Island to try out the new ride came from the people waiting in line.

Kings Island is one of Ohio’s most popular attractions. From families to top thrill seekers, all types of people enjoy the park’s many attractions. This year the park added the Banshee with the hopes of attracting even more people to the park. I found, however, that the Banshee was so hyped that the real coaster was disappointing and not worth its long line.

I waited months to ride the new coaster. The advertisements made it sound super cool. The Banshee is the world’s longest inverted roller coaster. The coaster sends its riders along 4,124.1 feet of twisting, bending track with seven loops and reaches speeds as high as 68 miles per hour. This all sounds awesome, but I found that the ride was oversold and lacked the thrill and enjoyment of some other rides at the park.

First off, the line to get on the ride was huge. I went on a weekday, which is usually when the park is the least crowded. I rushed to the ride when the park first opened and the line still took 45 minutes. Later in the day, the line grew and grew to be almost a 2-hour wait.

When I finally got to the front of the line and got in the seat, I noticed how uncomfortable it was. The seats are four to a row and they sport a harness-like mechanism that straps you in. I felt secure, but the shoulder straps were incredibly tight and they dug into my shoulders. Also I had my cell phone in my back pocket, which I don’t recommend because I felt like it was going to fall out the entire ride.

The ride itself was fun. I enjoy roller coasters, yet still I didn’t think the Banshee was as outstanding as it was hyped up to be. The ride focused a lot on going upside down and doing corkscrews, which I don’t personally enjoy as much as large hills.

That’s another thing; the first hill on the Banshee was disappointing. It was really small compared to many great roller coasters, and the ride started out fairly slowly.

Overall, the Banshee isn’t a bad roller coaster, and those who enjoy being upside down and doing loops will probably enjoy it. I, however, don’t think the Banshee is all it is cracked up to be and not worth the long line.

I’ll probably skip this ride the next time I go the park and instead focus on the other rides whose lines will hopefully be shorter because everybody is busy wasting their time waiting in line for the Banshee.

Great article, Lily! I actually had the experience of riding Banshee today at Kings Island and I have to agree! The advertisements made the ride seem much more exciting than it actually was! The line will get shorter; then it will be fun. I don’t think it is worth the hype.

I disagree with the writer. I think and still think that The Banshee is one of the best rides they have at KI. I also went 5 times this summer and each time I went the line for the Banshee was really short, sometimes only taking 15 minutes to get on. Overall me and my girlfriend think its a wonderful ride and we always try to ride it as many times as possible when we visit KI. I think you do have good points, and you are entitled to your opinion, I just feel much differently about the ride.
