Fall movies ready to blast into theaters

Action, action, action. This fall the big screen is going to be filled with action, horror and science-fiction flicks, some that are remakes, some sequels and even the occasional comedy. Moviegoers are sure to get pumped about a huge package of action and scares opening in September.

Resident Evil: Retribution (Sept. 14)

Returning for her fifth film, star Milla Jovovich will reprise her roll as Alice, a zombie-slaying heroine here to kick butt and take names on Sept. 14. With the evil Umbrella Corporation’s T-Virus officially going global, Alice will need to team up with other survivors to survive the zombie-infested cities of Tokyo, New York, Washington, D.C., and Moscow. Fans of the series will not want to miss this next installment in the Resident Evil series. Rated R.

Dredd 3D (Sept. 21)

A re-imagining of the Sylvester Stallone 1995 flop, Judge Dredd, Dredd 3D features Karl Urban as the titular Judge Dredd exploding onto the silver screen this Sept. 21. Set in the far future in Mega City One, Dredd is set to take down the criminal menaces as judge, jury and executioner. Fans of science-fiction and fans of the comic or 1995 film will definitely want to take the time to visit the theaters for a glimpse at Mega City One. Rated R.

Hotel Transylvania (Sept. 28)

One of this fall’s lighter movies, Hotel Transylvania stars Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula, the owner of a lavish hotel for monsters to avoid the annoyance of humans. To celebrate his daughter’s 118th birthday, Dracula invites some of the most famous monsters of all time, including Frankenstein and his bride, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves and more. However, things will get interesting when a human discovers the hotel . . . and then falls in love with Dracula’s daughter. Moviegoers looking for a good laugh this fall will want to take time to enjoy this film. Rated PG.

Taken 2 (Oct. 5)

Star Liam Neeson’s character Bryan Mills returns from the 2008 hit film Taken in its anticipated sequel on Oct. 5. Set one and a half years after the events of the first film, Mills and his wife are on vacation in Istanbul. However, the men Mills assaulted in the first film are back for their revenge. This time, it’s up to his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace), to save him from the group. Rated PG-13.

Silent Hill: Revelations 3D (Oct. 26)

The sequel to the original Silent Hill film, Silent Hill: Revelations will bring back the horrors of the ghost city to moviegoers just in time for Halloween. Stars Adelaide Clemens and Sean Bean find themselves running from unknown forces, leading to the return to the horrific town on the eve of Heather Mason’s (Clemens) 18th birthday. Filled with terrifying creatures and demons, only moviegoers will know the true fate of Mason and her family. Discoveries and revelations will abound in the darkness of the theater this fall. Rated R.

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (Nov. 16)

Twilight is coming to a close with the final installment of the series. Breaking Dawn Part 2 will feature stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson reprising their roles as Bella and Edward Cullen. In this final installment, the family is being hunted by a clan of ancient vampires who want to eliminate them for creating a vampire child. Fans of the long-running series based on the books of the same name will be anxious to head out and see the final chapter of the Twilight saga. Film not yet rated.
