Kid Cudi’s newly released album, Man on the Moon Volume II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, gives listeners a more real sense of the life of Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) instead of bringing you into his dreams like the first album did. Although the album explores a more dark side of Mescudi’s life, the variation of style and catchy songs keep bringing me back for more. The album combines various genres from song to song, including a blend of synthetic hip-hop and rock sounds derived from older artists.

Erase Me (featuring Kanye West) was the first song released from the album; it was played on June 30 on a Cleveland radio station. Erase Me is one of the best songs from the album, blending well-written lyrics, rock-like instrumentals and a vocal hip-hop mix.

The End (featuring GLC, Chip Tha Ripper and Nicole Ray) is another song not to miss from the album. The End has a more mellow feel to it, unlike the more upbeat Erase Me. Although Mescudi doesn’t come into this song until the end verse, all three rappers make the song catchy and enjoyable.

Man on the Moon Volume II: The Legend of Mr. Rager had a lot of hype to live up to after the success of  Man on the Moon. After hearing about this CD a couple months before it was set to come out, I was excited to hear Mescudi’s sophomore album. I can say that this CD was well worth the wait. Volume II not only lives up to Kid Cudi’s first release, it may even surpass it.
