The Fairmont Girls’ Varsity Tennis team finished their season 4th in the GWOC with a record of 6-10-1.

Despite their overall record, the team had a lot of successes, such as their 5-0 victory over Trotwood to start the season. There were a lot of ups and downs, but the team played hard to get the six wins, including two division wins, in a very tough GWOC Central.

“It was a great year,” said senior Julia Slusher. “I loved playing this year and I am going to miss it a lot.”

The girls were champions of the GWOC Silver Flight Tournament, winning four out of five positions, including: 1st singles champion: Allison Bendel; 3rd singles champion: Kayla Springheart; 1st doubles champions: Megan Miller and Maryn Moor; and 2nd doubles champions: Angela Cooney and Nicole Cordonnier. Caroline Grogan also took 3rd in 2nd singles.

“We came into the season with a lot of enthusiasm, especially from our senior squad,” said Head Coach Tim Voegeli.

Allison Bendel qualified for districts for the second time in her career.

The team awards were: Most Valuable: Allison Bendel; Most Improved: Megan Miller; Coaches Award: Kayla Springhart; and Sportsmanship: Caroline Grogan.
