FHS coach spikes his way into the record books with milestone win

Fairmont Girls’ Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Bill Buirley reached an important milestone in his coaching career when he won his 300th game. The win came on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in a contest against the Springboro Panthers at Trent Arena.

The Firebirds won in three straight sets: 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13. The Firebirds were led to victory by freshman Brooke Westbeld with 30 assists and 7 blocks, and senior Chelsea Welch and junior Megan Hageman with 9 kills each. Senior Kara Manzo added 9 digs on the night, while senior Staci Bennett added 12 digs and 7 kills and senior Cheyenne Jones added 12 digs. Junior Melanie Hageman had 8 blocks and senior Claire Becker added 4 blocks on the night.

The Firebirds, now 13-5 on the season (4-1 in GWOC play), take on the Tippecanoe Red Devils and the Bellbrook Golden Eagles in a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.
