The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team has high goals this season. Their main challenge and goal is to win the GWOC Central Division. The team fell just short of the title last year to Centerville.

The Firebirds have six returning lettermen, including seniors Paqui Toscano, Jordan Thomson and Tommy Shine, and juniors Adam Wolfe, Nathan Bare and Trevor O’Hara.

Seniors on the team this year are Shine, Toscano, Thomson, Jacob Hesse, Alex Herzog, Cameron Peppo and Christopher Valadez. In addition, coaches expect freshman Ian Steiner to make a big impact and become one of the top varsity players.

“So far, the boys have been working very hard and are dedicated to making improvements for the season,” said Head Coach Tim Voegeli.

The coaches feel that they have the makings for a great team. “The team is competitive in spirit, which is always a good thing to have,” said Assistant Coach Laura Jacobs.

The boys started their season on Tuesday April 3, 2012, with an 0-5 loss on Vandalia Butler’s home court. Upcoming competitors include Miamisburg and Mason. Mason is the preseason pick for the top Cincinnati area team.
