The Fairmont Girls’ Varsity Basketball team is headed to the Regional Finals after a 48-35 win against Mason on Tuesday, March 8, at the Nutter Center.

Sophomore Chelsea Welch, the Firebirds’ starting point guard, collected 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists to help Fairmont prove victorious. Starting forwards Makayla Waterman and Kathryn Westbeld, both freshmen, also aided the win by scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. Westbeld also had 10 rebounds.

Fairmont, which has a record of 24-1, will play Springboro, 24-2, in the Regional Finals on Friday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Nutter Center. A victory over Springboro would send the Firebirds to the Final Four.

Tickets for the Friday night game are $6 if purchased in the Fairmont Athletic Office and $8 if purchased at the door.

I think Fairmont could take it all the way. As long as the team keeps their game faces on and doesn’t forget what’s going on, we could have this in the bag.
