I enjoyed the article ... really puts the "the world really ISN'T going to end" opinion (since it hasn't happened, anyway) out into Fairmont. Personally, I'm a fan of the "It's not going to end, because I didn't just spend all my life in school to be told 'Oh, hey, world's over, sorry.'" It still irritates me that the Media in general have put out what, to me, are lies and blatant ones at that, but as Paqui said, they're protected by the 1st Amendment. Maybe on Dec. 12, 2012, the Media will start telling the truth for once.

Maybe.

Matt, I think this was a great story! I really enjoyed reading about the different theories, about how the media fits into it, and NASA scientists who are reassuring the general public. I think especially with the advent of the movie "2012" this story is especially important for our society. I'll admit that I think the media is walking a fine ethical line when they are putting lies on the Internet (I wouldn't outright say it's unethical without knowing more about it -- and regardless the First Amendment has them covered), but I don't think there's anything wrong with History Channel doing a special on it, and frankly I wish I would've watched it -- if that's going to freak people then they shouldn't watch it. I don't think that TV stations or movie producers should be blamed for peole contemplating suicides, however awful that may seem. People should be able to separate truth from movie -- the movie industrys purpose is to entertain, not inform. Some people are always going to have extreme reactions to things, but I don't think that mainstream Americans are going to be jumping off buildings any time soon.

You know, looking through all the information I have gathered for my website, 2012-decoded.com, it can be a bit overwhelming. The truth is, after all the information I have learned about this topic, I still don't think it will occur. At least, I hope it doesn't ... that will be a bummer! I think it is a new era in humanity, something is going to a change and it's for the good. Call me optimistic, but it's better to think in that term than in the terms of everything ending.
Let's hope for the best!
