Senior Jenna Silverman recently received a 2009 NCTE Achievement Award in Writing. She was one of only 18 students chosen in Ohio for this honor.
The award is the result of a National Council of Teachers of English writing competition last year. Silverman was one of four Fairmont juniors chosen to participate. She wrote a work of prose and also wrote on an impromptu theme under supervision.
According to the NCTE, “a team of English teachers judge the writing, looking especially for writing that demonstrates effective and imaginative use of language to inform and move an audience.”
