‘The Hunger Games’ leaves fans hungry for more

Suzanne Collins’ book The Hunger Games, which is more than just a clever title, is a futuristic story about Panem, a country that has been divided into 13 districts, but the 13th district was destroyed by the central government long ago. Each year, The Capitol holds “The Hunger Games,” where every district must send 2 teenage tributes, one boy and one girl, into a televised arena. There they must fight to the death so that one can survive.
The main character, Katniss Everdeen, volunteers to take the place of District 12’s girl tribute when the name of her younger sister, Primrose, is drawn. Then Katniss and Peeta, a boy she has known her whole life, are taken away and sent into training for “The Hunger Games.” Both hope to survive, even as each knows that only one can win.
The Hunger Games is a book where you’ll fall in love with a character, only to have the character killed off unexpectedly. You’ll even watch a competitor admit his love to someone then use this love in order to try to survive. It’s a story that will keep you on your toes the entire time you’re reading it because you’re itching to know what happens next.
With constant plot twists and turns, The Hunger Games is not a book in which you will easily guess the ending. Collins does a magnificent job at using Katniss’s character to demonstrate just how far someone will really go in order to protect the people they love.
The Hunger Games is easily one of the most captivating books I have ever read, and I cannot wait to read what Collins has in store for the rest of the series in her two follow-up books, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

I was skeptical when my brother brought it home …he said it was for an English class, so I figured that it would be pretty boring. But when I picked it up, I soon realized that I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN!!! Both my brother and I read all three books, and we’re going to see the movie when it comes out. This series is awesome, and to quote Missy Hey: “YOU NEED TO READ IT!!!!!!!!”
