Let’s Get It doesn’t quite have it

Let’s Get It epitomizes everything I hate about the current trends in music. Yes, this is going to be that kind of review.
Formed a little over a year ago from the ashes of two considerably well-liked Dayton bands, The Cut Scene and Me in the Making (formerly Words as Weapons), Let’s Get It plays an all-too-familiar blend of dance-infused pop music. What little noteworthy songwriting appears on their debut is covered up by thick, glossy studio-conjured sheen.
But honestly, that’s OK with me. I’d rather not actually listen to what they have to say. When vocalist Joe Gilford whines arrogantly, “I came to break necks and get in their beds,” I want to crawl into my own bed and curl into the fetal position. This pompous attitude is unwavering throughout Digital Spaces. The band shouts out their own name repeatedly, which I believe is to keep listeners from confusing them with the other hundred or so similar-sounding bands in today’s music scene. Lyrics about waterfalls of champagne and making it rain clog up the chorus of Do Not Disturb, and To Catch a Snipe is the messiest song I’ve heard in a long time. It features hilariously out-of-place half-screams that sound like they came straight out of The Used’s discography.
All in all, if you’re looking for music that actually means something or music that is original in any sense of the word, avoid Digital Spaces at all costs.

What music background do you have? I’d like to see another band with the similar orchestral harmonies that these guys have. It’s one of the best pop albums I’ve heard in a long time, not to mention VERY original. Instead of the same old guitar riffs and lyrics about girls, etc. This music is lyrics from the heart, including their line from maps “Gathering inside the attic tight” right at home. Tons of kids here in Dayton can relate to that. The entire album is set up like a play. As my friend put it, their synth is all so well-written. Their live performance matches to a new level. I don’t see any of the points you mentioned.

I’d have to disagree with you, Ryan. I respect your opinion; however, you say that this album is very original? How is it original? Bands that sound just like Let’s Get It are a dime a dozen. Also, I feel like the lyrics aren’t very honest and passionate. Their lyrics are about parties (Duck, Duck, Grey Goose). I have not seen them live, but I am not impressed by their album. All the songs sound the same.
