Demers, Drennen seek your vote

Hi. My name is Max Demers. I am a 2001 alum of Kettering Fairmont, currently living in New York City. About a year ago, year ago, I joined a band called Astoria Boulevard, a folk trio, made up of myself, Philip Drennen (another Fairmont alum, class of ’02), and another musician, Dan Scott. Lately things have really been picking up for us, and I wanted to send our alma mater an update:

In the last month alone, we have been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered

Most recently we have been named semi-finalists in the nationwide search for the new freecreditscore.com (formerly freecreditreport.com) band. We are one of 4 bands from New York City left in the competition. There are also 4 bands from Chicago, and four from LA. We are hoping to be the band to represent New York in the finals in Los Angeles. In order to get there, we are seeking online votes. We are reaching out to you with the hope that you may be able to spread the word and get the good students and staff of Fairmont High in our corner from now until June 21st, when the voting ends. I’ve included the link to our semi-finals video package below where you can get any/all information about the contest, see the other bands in the competition, and even … if you feel so obliged … vote. :) I’ve also included some links to our original music on facebook and youtube. Astoria Boulevard might just make it in this business. We really believe in ourselves, and think you will too once you check us out. There are a number of members of the Fairmont staff (Mr. McDonald, Mrs. Clark, Mr. Baxter, to name a few) who can vouch for us as people, and I think our music speaks for itself.

Senior likes the online ‘Flyer’

The Flyer online is awesome! I’m a senior this year, and I wish it would have been done sooner : (

Why not list all music events?

Why isn’t there one place where I can find out about all the Music Department events? I see them listed under upcoming events, but I’m sure the Music Department must have a list for the whole year. You could put it under entertainment! I am not the parent of a musician, so I would like another way to find out about musical events.

Aaron Bradford, 21, is a 2006 graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School who joined the United States Air Force shortly after high school. He is now a senior airman serving in Iraq.

Website and O’Donnell’s story are awesome

Kevin O’Donnell’s story on Melissa Fortener is awesome. I think he did an outstanding job with a very difficult topic. I think that he handled it very professionally and also made it touching.

In addition, The Flyer is awesome! I spent quite a bit of time on the website last night and thought it was great. Kudos to the staff and their adviser.

I spent some screen time on The Flyer website last night. It looks great. The staff is doing an incredible job! It is so easy to navigate … better than some professional sites I visit. Congratulations on a successful website launch.
