Natalie Wolfe, Editor-in-Chief

Hello, everyone! I’m one of the Editors-in-Chief for this year. I’m a senior and this will be my third year on staff.  When I’m not in Room 121, I love shopping, dressing up and going to musicals, but you can also find me reading and spending time outdoors.  Tennis is also a big part of my life and I would love to go watch a match at Wimbledon some day. I wasn’t a very big fan of other sports until I went to a UD basketball game a few years ago. Now, I try to go to as many games as possible. And to some this may sound weird, but there are more pets living in my house than there are people. I wish we could add one more though … a horse!

Jessica Parrett, Editor-in-Chief

I was born on a cold morning December 12, 1991. I started walking at the age of… actually I don’t remember, so we’ll just skip all that and get to the important stuff. I’ve pretty much always had a passion for writing. My sophomore year of high school J-Ro introduced me to the journalistic style of writing and I was hooked! Originally I was to be on the yearbook staff, but I was threatened by numerous people and had no choice but to switch to The Flyer. Now I’m a senior and I’m eager (and nervous) to start my second year on staff as Editor-in-Chief with my partner in crime, Natalie. These days, most of my time is consumed by singing in the choir or working on The Flyer. But I also love spending time with my friends and listening to music.

Dexter Carpenter, Design Editor

Hello, I’m Dexter and I’m a senior at Fairmont. I am very passionate about music. I could not live without it. I honestly couldn’t care less about sports (my apologies to all the sport fanatics on staff). I play the bass guitar in a band called Trinity Alone, but I write most of the guitar parts as well. We play shows all around Ohio and we’ve had the opportunity to play in several other states. Some things that I really like are smoothies, V-neck T-shirts, Vans, storms, and hoodies. Some things that I do not like are mayo, honey mustard, messiness and coffee. That is me in a nut shell.

Amanda Feairheller, Chief Photog

Hello! As you have read, my name is Amanda and I’m the Chief Photographer this year. I guess I’ve just always had a knack for taking pictures. When I’m not getting shots or on Photoshop, I’m usually doing something with Young Life. Whether we’re playing sand volleyball, capture the flag, Ping-Pong or Wii Cheerleading, we always know how to have fun. Jesus is my homeboy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I also like watching the sunset and taking long walks on the beach. I think life would be more fun if I had an accent. My favorite color is orange and the way to my heart is Hershey’s milk chocolate.

Alex Bachmann, Staff Writer

My name is Alex Bachmann, but a lot of people just call me Bachmann. Ever since I competed in Power of the Pen in middle school, I have been very much interested and involved in almost all styles of writing. I play Varsity Golf for Fairmont, and as a senior, this will be my 3rd year lettering for the team. I had a lot of fun last year writing for The Flyer and I can’t wait for another exciting year.

Molly Becker, Features Editor

Hi there! I’m Molly Becker and I am the Features Editor for The Flyer this year. Just a little bit about me. I am an observer — I notice everything! I love to people watch, so my job as a lifeguard at Oak Creek Swim Club suits me well. I am addicted to gum. I’m a perfectionist and freak out about the little things. I’m a senior! I love to be outside and like to swim, bike and walk my golden retriever, Sandy. I don’t think life would be worth living without music — especially Coldplay. I have one sister named Claire, who’s a freshman this year. My favorite time of the year is summer, but my favorite season is fall. I read the Life section of the paper first every morning. My favorite dessert is a soft serve chocolate ice cream cone. I enjoy reading, and I prefer happy endings. I’m looking forward to another great year on The Flyer!

Robert Breen, Business Manager

I was born in Kettering, Ohio, on March 29, 1993, and attended St. Albert the Great School from 1996 to 2007.  I now attend Fairmont High School, where I’m a junior.  I’m a big baseball fan and often go down to Cincinnati to cheer on my favorite team, the Reds. When the weather is nice, I enjoy playing tennis at the high school courts and playing golf.  I was on the golf team in junior high and hope to join the high school tennis team this year. When I’m not playing sports or cheering on the Reds, I like to relax, play video games and listen to my favorite music, classic rock.

Kelly Hart, Sports Editor & Photog

Hey, my name is Kelly. I am a junior at Fairmont. I’ve been playing basketball since the first grade, and it is my favorite sport to play. I also like watching soccer, football, baseball and more. I’m a fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Phoenix Suns and the Cincinnati Reds. And for college, it’s Duke all the way! During the summer, I live at the pool! I like to travel a lot. I have been to the Bahamas, New York City, Maine, Chicago and other cool places. But most of all, I love to hang out with my friends and family, whether it’s at a football game or at the mall.

Morgan Holley, Photographer

Hey, folks! My name is Morgan, but some call me Moe or Morg — or whatever they want really. Although I moved to Ohio when I was a couple months old, I am a native Californian. I love going to the beach and doing outdoor things like fishing and camping. One thing I think everyone should do before they die is swim with manatees because it’s so amazing! I love photography and I really do believe a picture is worth a thousand words and more. With photography, you can show emotion and even tell a story, and it is my form of art. I’m on the Girls’ Golf team at Fairmont, and I’m so excited to be on The Flyer this year. I can’t wait to see what the new school year holds!

Matt Metzler, Entertainment Editor

Hi, my name’s Matt.  I might be one of the biggest English nerds you’ve ever met.  I read books, voluntarily, and I love to write almost anything, unless it has a due date and is going to affect my grade.  I’m obsessed with the TV show “Lost,” and I really wish they would get “The Wonder Years” out on DVD already, or at least start showing re-runs on TV again.  I’m usually pretty quiet, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have things to say.  I probably couldn’t go a single day without my iPod, which contains an unhealthy amount of music.  I wish the “screamo” trend would go away so I could actually see a decent band at The Attic again, but I’m not holding my breath.  Also, I don’t really like talking on phones.

Justin Miles, Entertainment Editor

For those of you who can’t read titles, I am The Justin Patrick Miles. I’m just your typical high school senior, besides the fact that I’m the coolest kid you’ll ever know. When I’m not downing cans of Mountain Dew and getting rejected by every girl I know, I like to go on adventures and do some things that are out of the ordinary. I love football and I’ll “Who Dey” until the day that I die. My friends are the world to me … yep, all three of them. The band Owl City has given me a new optimistic view on life, which is important since life seems to be happening sooner than I want it to. But for right now, I’m just trying to enjoy myself.

Kaydee Miller, Staff Writer & Photog

Hello, everyone! My name is Kaydee! I’m involved in a lot of school activities as a junior, but most of them consist of sports. I live and breathe sports. At Fairmont, I’m involved with diving, pole vault and cheerleading. My major goals in high school sports are to get 13 varsity letters and a scholarship for college. I’ve lived in Ohio my whole life, so I think when I’m done with high school, it’ll be time to leave home. I have a lot of family scattered across the United States, but I would love to say my next home will be in Florida. Even though sports is a huge part of my life, I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Kevin O’Donnell, Acad/Admin Editor

Hey! It’s good to see you. How’ve you been? If you didn’t know, my name is Kevin E. O’Donnell (Irish to the bone). I would shake your hand, but this is a blog post. Getting down to business, I’m a sophomore at Fairmont High. Kettering has been my home for a year now, and I’m proud to call it that. I play  bass in the Orchestra (straight up Orch Dork) and electric bass in a few jazz bands. Music is at least half of my life. School, work, family and friends take up most of my time.  This is my first year on The Flyer, and I’m psyched to be the Academics/Administrative Editor with Mr. Pasquale T. If you ever need me, I’m the tall, goofy kid with a big grin on his face. Buh bye now!

Kyle Ratliff, News Editor

My name is Kyle Ratliff, and I’m a senior at Fairmont. I really enjoy politics and history, which is why I wanted to be News Editor. I work at Marco’s Pizza and will be a manager in December. This is my second year on The Flyer and I’m excited to be writing again.

Sam Robison, Photographer

I’m a junior this year at Fairmont. I went to the best elementary school in all of Kettering, Orchard Park. I also went to Van Buren. I was on the volleyball team last year, and I look forward to this year’s season. I love to play just about any sport! I’ve always been interested in photography, and I like taking pictures of just about anything. Outside is where you’ll find me! I listen to pretty much every kind of music. My favorites are alternative, classic rock, and rap. I also like to play the guitar.

Dani Schaaf, Ass’t Chief Photog

Hey, everybody! How’s it going? My name is Danielle, but I prefer Dani. I’ve lived in Ohio my whole life. How boring does that get? Very! I’ve gone to Kettering City Schools ever since I could go to school. I play softball and field hockey; there’s no favorite. That’s what I spend most of my life doing, because softball has summer tournaments and field hockey starts right after that. I absolutely love my family to death – couldn’t live without them. Every summer, I go on vacations to get away from Ohio. (I really don’t hate Ohio as much as it sounds. LOL!) I love taking photos. They explain so much about a person’s life — like how the photographer is feeling or what he or she is thinking. I can’t wait for the new school year to come so I can see all my friends. Plus, I can’t wait to be in The Flyer class. I’m so excited!  :)

Paqui Toscano, Acad/Admin Editor

Howdy, guys. Although I was originally born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I consider Kettering home, since I moved here when I was only eight months old. I went to JFK Elementary School and KMS, where I was a director of the literary magazine and a Power of the Pen participant. Now, I spend most of my time at Fairmont, where I’m a sophomore. I participate in a number of activities, including: Debate Team, Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Sophomore Class Council and the tennis team. I’m also both a Muse Machine and JCL officer. When I’m not at school (which isn’t often), I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, writing and reading, or just watching TV. I’m very excited about being an Academics/Administration Editor on The Flyer this school year.

Cheyenne Whitfield, Staff Writer

Hello, my name is Cheyenne. Music is an important part of my life. I could listen to it for hours and hours. Ohio weather is crazy, but I enjoy the rain and the random thunderstorms — even the unexpected wind storm. When the weather is nice, I love hiking, especially the scenic trails. I’m quite lazy and uncoordinated, which is why I don’t play any sports. I’m interested in photography and writing. I mainly enjoy taking pictures of the sky and nature. I like writing just about anything. My favorite colors are yellow and purple. I’m pretty quiet and reserved during school.

Brandon Wiles, Business Manager

Hey, as you can tell my name is Brandon Wiles. I was born in Kettering, Ohio, but I want to move to Arizona where it’s warm all year long. I’m your typical high school student, I love music and sports. I’m finally a senior, but deep down inside, I’m really sad about that. It seems like life is moving way too fast, but I plan to have a lot of fun while it lasts. To occupy my time, I love to listen to music, be with friends, watch The Office (best show ever) and run. I love all sorts of music except for screemo and rap. After high school is done with, I hope to get accepted into the University of Miami (Florida), where I’ll study to become an accountant. After that, who knows! I’ll guess I’ll just take life as it comes.

Janie Ross, Adviser

I’ve been practicing journalism more than twice as long as my students have been alive. (You do the math.) I worked on my high school yearbook, got a Journalism degree from Indiana U, worked at newspapers in Missouri and Ohio, and did publications work for the City of Kettering. As soon as I earned my teaching certificate in ’99, Fairmont posted a job for a Journalism teacher and adviser. It must have been fate … and I’ve been here ever since. My Flyer students like to give me nicknames. I like the ones I know about, such as J-Ro, JRoss, Coach and even the Ross Hoss. (Thanks, Jenny Borchers.) Some people think I live in Room 121, but I actually have a husband and grandson who like to have me home for dinner.
