Hey! My name is Kelsi Fannin, and this is my third year on The Flyer and second year as the Fairmont Life Editor on staff.

I am a senior this year at Fairmont High School. English is my favorite subject, so naturally, reading is one of my favorite things to do outside of school as well as hanging out with friends. I plan on majoring in English education. I am excited to be a part of The Flyer again and can’t wait to work with everything going on around Fairmont.

Brandon Lively, Staff Writer

Hi, I’m Brandon Lively, a senior this year, and this is my first time on The Flyer staff. I have a lot of writing experience — unrefined, but there — due to the fact that I’m a songwriter, and I also write stories and plays.

I’m involved in a lot of after-school activities, such as the Anime Club and the Theatre (Drama) Club. I’m also interested in baseball and soccer. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone on staff.  Indeed, I know some of them already from other classes and groups, and I thank all of them for being so nice and helpful to me so far.

Actually, I’m looking forward to this as much as I am graduation … no, maybe not. But I am grateful for this wonderful chance to be on The Flyer, and I will do my best not to waste it!

I’m a senior this year at Fairmont. I’m really excited to a part of The Flyer and looking forward to the challenge. A little about me: I was born in Kettering and did live in Florida for a little while.  I transferred to Fairmont from the Beavercreek school system before my freshman year.

I love sports!!! I play golf and bowl for Fairmont. In addition to sports, I love cold pizza and Dr. Pepper for breakfast — it’s the breakfast of champions! I do enjoy the outdoors, and family is important to me so I keep them close.

I’m ecstatic to be the sports editor this year, and I’ll do the best job I can to bring the news of sports to the people.

Returning for my third and final year with the Fairmont Flyer, I’m excited to say that I’m going to be working with another fantastic staff this year. Keep an eye out for me at football games, as I’m going to be dotting the “I” this year for Script Birds, as the senior sousaphone player. I can’t wait for another great year!

¡Hola, mis amigos! This is my second year as chief photographer on The Flyer. I play clarinet in Marching Band, Pit Orchestra, Pep Band, Wind Ensemble, District 12 Honor Band, and a few other smaller orchestras.

When I’m not doing homework or at some band function, I can usually be found reading a good book. I really enjoy reading and I aspire to either be an English teacher or an editor at a publishing house.

My mantra is, “Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts,” which was said by my favorite author, Charles Dickens.

Hello! I am glad to be back on The Flyer for my 2nd year. I look forward to writing once again about sports — not just around Fairmont, but also around the state, country and world. I still know all about all sports, and I have some new things to write about this year.

Hey there! My name’s Kerrianne Ryan, and this is my second year on staff. I’m looking forward to spending the semester I have left at Fairmont working with The Flyer family again. What time I won’t be spending working on Flyer related activities, I’ll devote to working two jobs, keeping my grades up, and attempting to have somewhat of a social life for my senior year. And come January, I’ll be off to college to further my education in journalism!

Sam Barton, Staff Writer

My name is Sam Barton, and I’m a staff writer on The Flyer this year. This is my first year on The Flyer, so I plan on being the successful author of multiple articles that you will never find interesting enough to finish reading. I enjoy music and I, somewhat unoriginally, play the double bass in Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band.

I am way too involved in our great school with a list of extra-curricular activities that includes Class Council, JCOWA, Academic Team and Ohio Model United Nations. I spend my time doing homework, volunteering, listening to obscure indie music and writing; obviously, I have a fulfilling and exciting social life. But seriously, I love writing and I’m looking forward to this coming year on The Flyer!

Hey! My name is Lindsay Breslin and this is my first year on The Flyer staff. I have four siblings, one of whom goes to Fairmont currently as well. I play basketball for the girls’ team and am very excited for this season!

In my spare time … well, I rarely have any of it thanks to homework and basketball. I like to play video games. Some of my favorites are Resident Evil 4 and Indigo Prophecy. I also like to read. Harry Potter is the love of my life when it comes to book series.

Due to the fact that I have no social life, I watch YouTube videos ALL THE TIME. Tobuscus and jacksfilms are two of my all-time favorite YouTubers. Movies are also a big part of my life, and some of my favorites are Anchorman and The Dark Knight Rises.

Also, I would like to say that Kevin O’Donnell inspired me to be on The Flyer, as he was a former member and a great person. I hope you all enjoy checking out this awesome website, and stay classy, Fairmont!

Greetings, fellow Firebirds!  My name is Rachel Sheidler and this is my second year on The Flyer staff.  I am a senior and I plan on doing a lot of writing and photography for the site, so keep a lookout for my work.

As for someone weird facts about me, I have more than 100 pairs of earrings, I got my boating license before my driver’s license, I have to have something green on my dinner plate (don’t judge) and I may have a slight obsession with jellybeans.

I am really involved in the youth group at my church and have met my closest friends there.  My faith is very important to me and I have God to thank for my many blessings.  I work at the local library and in my free time I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, volunteering, watching Glee, and spending time with family and friends.  After high school, I plan on going to Wright State University to major in education.  Thanks for reading and see ya in the halls!

Josh Strange, Features/Entertainment Editor

Josh Strange, Features/Entertainment Editor

Hey, there! I’m Josh Strange and I love nothing more in life than music. I play guitar, percussion and pretty much any other instrument. My favorite genres are jazz and hip hop, and my favorite artists are A Tribe Called Quest, Wes Montgomery, Nas, Mudvayne, Marcus Miller, Lupe Fiasco and Stone Temple Pilots. Most of my time is consumed by Marching Band or Percussion Ensemble, where I play marimba. Don’t know what a marimba is? Google it.

I also love to laugh and make other people laugh; I feel like I’m always laughing at something — the world is just so funny. I’m a very optimistic person and I believe that if you put effort into everything you do, life will be enjoyable.

I lived in Dayton until I was 5, then moved to Kettering where I’ve lived since then. My family is very supportive, and I couldn’t ask for a better one. I love Fairmont and hope I can contribute a lot to The Flyer.

I am junior at Fairmont. I’m very musically inclined and know how to play the bass, piano and drums. (I can strum a few songs on guitar, too).  I’ve played football since I could walk and love the sport. I’m proud to be a co-captain of Fairmont’s team this year. I like to have a positive outlook and try not to take things too seriously. I also enjoy long walks on the beach and talking about my feelings.

Janie Ross, Adviser

Janie Ross, Adviser

This is my 14th year advising The Flyer newsmagazine, and journalism is in my blood. It was my major at Indiana University, along with a 2nd major of political science/criminal justice. I began my 12-year newspaper career at The Springfield Daily News in Missouri, where I worked on the hard news side (fires, murders, politics, etc.) and worked my way up to City Editor. I also met my husband Kevin at the paper, and we’ll celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in the fall of 2012. We moved to Ohio in 1984 and both took jobs at the Dayton Daily News; Kevin stayed in news and I moved to features (entertainment, food, lifestyle, etc.). After that, I worked for the City of Kettering in a media-related area for about five years before deciding to turn to teaching. I had no idea I would end up in the world of journalism again after earning my teaching credentials, but Fairmont High School needed someone to teach Journalism, The Flyer and the yearbook classes, so it seemed to be my destiny! (I’ve since given up the yearbook class and teach other English classes now, too.)

I live in Washington Township with Kevin and my grandson Calvin, a sophomore at (gasp!) Centerville High School. The other men in my life are my rotten cat Zeke and Calvin’s equally rotten cat Hobbes. I’d like to say I have several great hobbies, but I never find time for them because The Flyer and my other responsibilities keep me pretty busy!
